How To Set a Style Up Table

Setting your table has never been easier with Style Up Group’s table setting kits. Here are some basic guidelines for setting the table, but remember, you can always give your party your own custom twist!

• First, the table runner. You’ll want the runner to go down the center of the table. Depending on which table setting you have, and how many people you’re entertaining, the runners vary in length and reach.
• Next, we recommend setting aside the candlesticks and taper candles as well as the place cards. This is best saved for last.
• Once the runner is positioned, place a charger at each person’s spot.
• Next, the dinner plates, followed by the salad plates on top of the dinner plates. These look very nice layered. If you have the Gaucho setting, you have an appetizer bowl instead of a salad plate. In our photoshoot of this setting, we prefer the bowl off of the plate, but really that is up to you.
• For napkins, some settings include napkin rings and some don’t. This is really where your own esthetic comes into play. Some people love a simple folded napkin to the left of the dinner plate, some like to use a neutral ribbon to tie the napkins, or some lay them on top of the salad plate. Any of those options look great. For an extra fun tip, incorporate a flower or green into the napkin design.
• Next, it’s time for the flatware. The forks go on the left, the knife and spoon on the right. The knife blade faces the plate.
• The wine, cocktail and/or water glasses go on the right.
• Final touches: now it’s time for candlesticks, taper candles and place cards. Candles should go in the middle of the table. If you have flowers or wine in the middle, make sure there’s enough space for people to see each other from across the table. For the place cards, write each person’s first name (or nickname for a little fun) in the center of the card with a nice pen or marker. Place cards should go centered above the setting.
